As the culmination of this course on college writing, students will plan, research, and write a college level research paper that explores a topic of interest and importance. Research papers must be at least 8 pages in length (not including Works Cited), double-spaced, and typed in a standard font using proper MLA format. At least eight sources dating no further back than the year 2000 are required. Papers should include 25-30 in-text citations. A balance of sources should be used, including academic journals and academically reviewed books (as topic allows). Papers must be developed around a question of interest and importance, and must include a title, introduction, thesis statement, discussion, conclusion, and Works Cited page. Papers must follow one of the general genres used for the essay assignments earlier in the course: advantages/disadvantages, cause and effect, or argumentative. Research papers must be uploaded as Word documents (no PDFs).
