Settling In
Admittedly, these first two weeks of Exploring Literary Narratives can feel like quite a crash course in the study of fictional narratives. Beyond simply establishing a technical distinction between story and narrative, we’ve rapidly built up a toolkit of concepts and methods for understanding and describing about how what we’re reading works. Even though it’s still early, it’s worth taking preliminary stock of what you’ve learned over the course of these first two weeks and reflecting on how you might be changing or evolving as a reader of literary narratives. With this in mind, compose a response in which you compare/contrast your experiences in Week 1 and Week 2. You should discuss:
- changes or developments in the ways you have started to read or think about what you’re reading since the course began (in terms of what you look for, what you’re more aware of/noticing, what you’re interested in or intrigued by, etc.)
- concepts, ideas, or insights from the lessons that have proved particularly illuminating, useful, rewarding, or influential
Your response should make sure to discuss the above in relation to specific examples/evidence; in other words, make sure to draw on some of the specific texts we’ve read and your experiences reading them in order to support or help convey your thoughts. Please feel free to approach your written response to this TLR as a very short personal/casual essay (3-4 paragraphs).
