FORUM EXPECTATIONS: Rationale for Discussion Posts to Forum

Discussion forums are primarily for the student’s benefit, to help keep up with assigned readings, to help internalize and retain what has been read by thinking further about the assignments more intensely. The aim of the forums is to foster associative and divergent thinking.

Within the forum post, students will be responsible for an initial post and one peer response.

As a guide the initial postings should be about 300-350 words in length and the response to peer should be about 100 words. ALL DISCUSSION POSTS MUST HAVE AT LEAST ONE-TWO REFERENCES FROM THE READINGS. Typically initial post and peer response and will be due by the next class meeting.

It is an expectation that post be substantial in the sense that they are focused on the assigned reading and should offer some support for whatever opinions have been expressed.
