The essay must be around 1,000 words (excluding references) and should be properly referenced in Harvard style only.
Choose a multinational corporation from an advanced economy (for the sake of this question we are limiting it to the UK or the rest of Europe, USA, Canada, or Japan) which has invested in an emerging or developing country (most of Latin America, Africa, or Asia).
Explain the pattern of the internationalization process of the firm including the how, when, why, location etc. and how its experience is accounted for by international business theories and literature.
Make sure that you address resource-based and the institution-based views and issues related to distance and how they are manifested in this case.
In your conclusion, unpack the implications and lessons that emerge from your case study as regards the internationalization process of firms within an emerging market context.
Appendix: You also need to include a timeline of your multinational corporation’s most significant internationalization history in an appendix (this does not count towards your 1000 words) so that we can see where this particular host market internationalization fits into its overall internationalization pattern. This should be a table with three columns: date of each internationalization; host market; mode of entry.
[Hint: To give you an example of such a multinational corporation that would be relevant: Volkswagen’s investment in South Africa would be relevant. Established in 1946, Volkswagen Group South Africa is a wholly owned subsidiary of Volkswagen Aktiengessellschaft (VWAG) in Germany. Germany being an advanced economy and South Africa being an emerging market.]
