Terry Jones series on the crusades combines humor and fact to try to teach people about both the events of and motivations behind the crusades. The hard part is often distinguishing between what is fact and what is humor, which is often exaggerated and false.
For your paper, choose one example of a factual event in the video and explain how you know it’s factual and what made it valuable to include in a movie about the crusades. Then choose one example of a humorous and/or false part in the movie, explain what’s wrong historically with that part, and speculate about why Terry Jones might’ve included it (what did it add to his story about the crusades?). Conclude with an assessment of th balance between fact and humor in the movie: did it help you understand the crusades, or was it frustrating trying to separate fact from fiction?
