University of San Francisco Big Idea Thumbnails Drawing Task

Task1: Brainstorm as many ideas as necessary to come up with ten (10) thumbnails for the creative brief in the Instructor Update below. Your thumbnails should be:

hand drawn

black & white

  • 2″ x 3″ or 3″ x 4″
  • several to a page
  • Draw your thumbnails vertically, as in a single-page magazine ad, unless you have a conceptual reason to do it differently.
  • Each thumbnail should be numbered with the big idea and appropriate notes below or to the side (see examples below).

You should brainstorm far more than ten ideas, but only turn your best concepts into thumbnails.

Scan your thumbnails then save as JPEG files to send me.

During the thumbnail process: You should write your idea under each sketch.( Visual & Headline)
Task 2:
Find five ads (you can use ads you’ve found for previous assignments or pick new ones) and draw what you think the thumbnail would have looked like. Remember good thumbnails communicate the big idea by showing the headline/visual combination and logo. Body copy, taglines, etc. should be indicated with wavy lines. Challenge yourself to use the fewest strokes possible. Post both the original and the thumbnail you drew. Give yourself a 30-second time limit to draw each thumb.

Task 1 is drawing 10 thumbnails for Hungry-man with Visual and Headline and logo, and Put a star next to your top 3 to 5 thumbnails.Task 2 is find 5 ads you’ve found and draw what you think the thumbnail would have looked like, must including ( visual & headline & logo)
