Respond to the following:
- If deviance is behavior that violates social norms and societal rules, and criminality is behavior that breaks formal criminal laws, should deviant behavior be treated differently than criminal behavior in the criminal justice system?
- Should there be different arrest, adjudication, and punishments for the different types of offenders? Support your rationale.
In this section its 2 different student post… you must answer whether you agree or disagree…. add facts or opinions… 50 words for each post… please seperate these posts below from the above assisnment…. THESE ARE 2 DIFFERENT TASK…
1)I think that deviance behavior crimes shouldn’t be treated the same as criminal behavior crimes. Yes there should be different types of arrests for different offenders. Some people can commit a small crime that can be different to crime that could cause harm to someone. For example someone caught stealing can get a different punishment/sentencing than someone that could of kidnapped or murdering a person. Depending how bad the crime is should go about how their punishment should be. Another example that has been going back and forth is the punishment for individuals selling marijuana can go to prison for 3-7 years. Marijuana is legal in a few states in those states I don’t believe they should be incriminating those who sell it for such a long time. It could be counted as a crime but no longer than 6months to a year.
2)I believe deviance is what makes society unique. Although deviant behavior can be obstructive and damaging it is important to express and challenge social norms. Deviant should be handled differently from criminal behavior if they do not cross into each other. If the deviant behavior translates to destruction of property or harm or damage to people then it should he handled the same. In the sense of behavior that is protest or public objection should be embraced and welcomed. Our right to protest and to contest everything is what makes this country special. I believe there should be different treatments and punishments for crimes. A small petty theft charge should not hold the same as grand theft. The punishment should fit the crime and we should be able to learn from the mistakes made. I do believe that certain crimes should be linked together such as rape, murder, and child endangerment. My opinion is derived from seeing the damage blanked sentences have on individual. Humans have bad days that transpire to worst days on earth and a small offense should not translate to the end of life.
