Akuno, Kali & Nangwaya, Ajamu (2017) Jackson Rising: The Struggle for Economic Democracy and Black Self-Determination in Jackson, Mississippi. Daraja Press: Retrieved from: https://jacksonrising.pressbooks.com/chapter/build-and-fight-the-program-and-strategy-of-cooperation-jackson/
this is the book and this is the chapter you have to reed Chapter 12: The Jackson-Kush PlanChapter 13: The City as Liberated ZoneChapter 14: A Long and Strong History with Southern RootsChapter 15: The Challenge of Building Urban Cooperatives in the SouthChapter 16: Coming Full Circle
These chapters discuss the issues of democracy in terms of equal opportunities for adequate housing by turning it from a source of profit into a human right; the need for historically based powerful people’s assemblies that educate, build coalitions, influence political leaders, and create solutions independent of government; and their success in building worker cooperatives that directly address issues of classism, racism, and sexism. You’ve done well in highlighting the main points of each chapter. Your reflection on what these readings can teach us specifically about what we can do to help build social justice in our communities is absent.
