Overview: In this Discussion Board you will consider the analysis in Ch. 10 of the Brummett textbook. In 300-500 words, explain what is a rhetorical homology. More specifically, what is this “bad resurrection” Brummett speaks of? Can you think of other examples of the “bad resurrection?” Or, even better, can you think of a different rhetorical homology?

Discussion Board 5

Overview: In this Discussion Board you will be reading and discussing an article from the academic journal, Voices of Democracy.

Step One : Go to the following Web site, and select one of the speakers.

http://voicesofdemocracy.umd.edu/speakers/

Step Two: You might see multiple speeches that have been analyzed in the journal. If so, pick one of those speeches and then click on Interpretive Essay. If there is only one speech, go directly to the Interpretive Essay.

Step Three: Read the essay, and participate in the Discussion Board.

In 300-500 words describe the article you read. What was analyzed? What was the author’s argument about the speech they analyzed? What connections do you see to what we have covered in class this semester? Were there parts of the articles you found particularly usefu or insightful? Were there parts you found confusing, or difficult to understand?

Discussion Board 6

Overview: In this Discussion Board, you will be examining two TED Talks given by Jeff Speck, and Janette Sadik-Khan. Links to these speeches can be found in this week’s module.

In 300-500 words, post a thread where you reflect on the strengths and weaknesses of both speakers. This could be based on any of the concepts we have covered this semester.
