University of Maryland Long Term Care Needs Discussion

I’m working on a writing discussion question and need support to help me study.

  1. What is the role of society for a group of young adults who are delayed in their career aspirations as a result of an economic recession? Should the nation do something to ensure that these Americans do not continue being unemployed or underemployed over time? How will they fare later in life if their career has been stalled for a decade or so?
  2. How can the nation better manage the range of services needed by people with long term care needs so they have more options about where they live and how they live?
  3. Should older people be required to spend all of their money in order to get Medicaid support for either LTSS or nursing home care? Why or why not?
  4. By some estimates, Social Security will be unable to pay full benefits beginning in the year 2033. That’s only if nothing is done to change the current system. What suggestions do you have for “fixing” the system?
  5. Describe the differences between the definitions of food security and insecurity. What is the status of food insecurity among older adults nationwide? What recommendations did the White House Conference on Aging delegates offer to promote nutritional needs of elders? What do you think will be the challenges that nutrition programs for elderly adults face in the future?
