University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign Practice of Archeology and Culture Activity 5

At the beginning of this course we discussed popular myths about the origins of prehistoric mound sites. For the last activity, we’ll be looking at myths about archaeological practice itself. Public perceptions of archaeology today are often shaped by popular culture. Blockbuster films, tv shows, and video games have featured some of the most iconic portrayals of archaeologists. Your task for this activity is to pick one of these well-known fictional archaeologists and write a brief post (250 words min.) describing how the practice of archaeology is being represented in your popular culture example. How accurate is the depiction of archaeology in comparison to what you have learned about the discipline in this course? Your post should cite at least one reading or source that we’ve covered in this course to support your claims. https://www.thoughtco.com/moundbuilder-myth-histor
