What is reflection?

Reflection is a cognitive process that promotes critical thinking through writing. The cognitive process of reflecting focuses on a specific knowledge-base (i.e., textbook readings and videos), and makes inferences and predictions based on that knowledge.  An example of reflection would be framing your thoughts and feelings on the discussion questions below relating relevant sociological concepts and theory which may or may not support your perspective.

Instructions

Step 2:  Reflect upon the topic presented while applying a sociological imagination (a concept we reviewed in Week 1).

Step 3:  Identify, define, and apply one sociological theory (e.g., conflict, functionalism, interactionism, feminism, etc.) and three sociological concepts to your reflection (e.g., stigma, stereotype, racism, ethnocentrism, etc.)

Step 4:  Use a word processing program to create your assignment (MS Word). Submit your assignment as an attachment.  Don’t forget to use APA format, in-text citations and include a reference page at the end of your assignment.  A great online resource that “creates” citations for you is www.citationmachine.net (Links to an external site.).  Make sure to select APA format and create both reference and parenthetical (in-text) citations.
