Universal of California Berkeley Colorism in Representations of Latinxs

I’m stuck on a Film question and need an explanation.

Recently, the musical film In the Heights was released on HBO MAX, and immediately social media users began discussing the film casting as exemplary of colorism. In other words, the vast majority of the film’s characters (almost all of whom are Latinx characters) were played by light-complexioned actors. Research what this controversy was about, and why Afro-Latinxs/Black Latinxs are so often absent from screen representations of Latinxs. What is colorism? Why is it prevalent in U.S. depictions of Latinxs? What do you think can be done to increase color diversity in Latinx screen narratives? Write about your research into the issue of colorism in Latinx narratives in a 2-page (double-spaced) paper
