The mechanics of style is to ensure clarity, consistent communication, and presentation in the delivery of the writings. The semicolon has six direct uses; to separate two independent clauses that are not joined or joined by a conjunction, to separate items in a list that already contains a comma, to separate multiple parenthetical citations, to separate different types of information in the same parentheses and to separate the sets of statistics that already contain commas.
Another style is the dash, there are two; em dash is considered the long dash to amplify or digress from the main clause, and the en dash is longer and thinner but shorter than the previously mention em dash which is used between words of equal weight in a compound adjective and to indicate a numerical range, like page or date range.
