UMG WK 5 Human Capital Issues in The Workplace Discussion

According to almost all estimates, union membership has either remained flat over the last three years or declined. If that trend continues, what effect do you think it will have on the field of human resources? Specifically, how might human capital issues in the workplace be impacted by flat or declining union membership?

I work in Human Resources for a company based out of Arizona that has a Unionized workforce in PA. Let me say that Unions aren’t the best to deal with and the Union reps try to play dirty. The affect unions going away would be a blessing to Human Resources because less human capital would have to be spent tending to all the Union problems. Unions also are very needy and its hard to reward people for hard work. If you want to give someone a raise because of their good performance you can’t. People that have been a union member longer get priority even if their work isn’t as good. The whole system is messed up and its meant to help people that want to do bare minimum but still want to get paid top dollar. If this trend of declining union membership continues less resources would have to be spent o grievance proceedings and getting certain reports for the union and more time would be able to be spent helping employees and the workplace environment. Human capital issues would almost be non exsistant without unions.

Unions are shaped to act as the agent substances for the workers to talk for them in dealings with the company’s administration. Decay within the number of representatives getting involved in unions could be a great slant for human assets because it increments the by and large efficiency of the representatives whereas decreasing weight to raise the compensations, benefits among others. Further, considering the other way around, the human asset department‘s responsiveness to the representative issues by considering what they require in terms of benefits, great work environment and sensible working hours among others is the reason for the decay of the union membership. Human capital issues will be diminished or or maybe brought down with the accessibility of more willing workers to work at the work environment without causing disturbances to the firm’s operations.
