I’m working on a writing question and need guidance to help me learn.
Studying the Development of Rock music is important to my overall undergraduate education at WMU because it will help me better understand some of the cultural references that are commonly referred to. The United States has based its culture on things such as art, science, politics, and race. In addition, music has helped shaped the country into what it is today, and the emergence of rock music has helped stimulate some of the most significant cultural movements in the United States. My overall undergraduate education at WMU will benefit from studying the development of this music genre because it has traversed through all cultures and backgrounds that have helped shaped America. For example, many rock musicians and bands such as Bob Dylan, the Beatles, and Elvis Presley had a significant influence on issues such as the Civil Rights Movement. Their songs and lyrics helped break barriers between Black and White communities and learning about such history would go a long way in giving my cultural studies a holistic feeling. I feel that my college education would somehow be incomplete if I do not at least learn about the role of music in shaping such a great nation. Rock music and music, in general, are part of what shape America’s cultural landscape, and I feel that my undergraduate education should include such important aspects.
