The article talked about a condition called “Medical Student Syndrome,” which happens when medical students who study or have been in contact with patients relate the symptoms to themselves. This syndrome is categorized as a Somatic condition which explains as physical and mental conditions for patients who are overly anxious about their physical illness even though a doctor has diagnosed it or there may be no evidence to indicate that the illness is true.
However, it is more reliable when the claims come from the medical community. It is explained on a Ted Talk that when we look at someone’s activities for so long, our brain can simulate the symptoms that we are watching.
Some people say that it might be just a coincidence because people may already have a disease; they may have just discovered that they have it later, just like the medical student named Mike, who studied about an illness. He then checked himself and found that he had a disease.
In conclusion, the internet has already provided us with all of this information. Even though we do not need to know a lot like medical students, we still need to know to understand and prepare for the worst that could happen to us.
The original example is somebody reading about influenza, and then they associate a sneeze with the flu.
3. Give an example of how this article may be relevant to you while taking this class? Explain.
This article is relevant to me while taking this class. When I think about Covid-19 and learn about its symptoms, one of the symptoms is loss of taste or smell. Not too long ago, I ordered a Starbuck coffee, and it had no taste at all. I then quickly thought that I might have a Covid-19. However, I did not have it. I know that when I came home, I checked my temperature, and I put more syrup in the coffee, and it tasted fine. Starbucks may not put enough syrup for me.
