Goal: Delve into the scholarly article that use qualitative methods for a topic of your choice.
Steps:
1) Skim through of these journals that will lead you to articles:
- http://www.socialjusticejournal.org
2a) Find articles that are studies using qualitative methods. Please note that some articles may be super interesting but not qualitative methods and other articles might be about qualitative methods but not an actual research study. (You will have a chance for me to review / approve before investing too much time on potentially the wrong path.)
2b) Identify 1 scholarly article that utilizes qualitative method(s) and interested you the most.
3) Read the article carefully. Pay attention to the following and take notes!
i. What research method(s) was utilized?
ii. Who participated in the study?
iii. What were the ethical considerations involved in the study? (These could be ones the researchers mentioned or ones that you identify.)
iv. What are the major research findings – in other words, what did the researcher discover about this topic?
v. How would you conduct this research differently, for example, more participants, different participants, different setting, different questions asked of participants, etc.
4) You will write up these notes for your final reflection paper. See the organizational guidelines for the paper below.
5) Consider the following criteria for the reflection paper:
- Article was indeed qualitative method(s)
- Topic clearly explained
- Strong organization (e.g., used subheadings)
- ASA Citation Style used (https://www.asanet.org/sites/default/files/savvy/documents/teaching/pdfs/Quick_Tips_for_ASA_Style.pdf)
- Quotes within the paper were properly cited

Discussion of Findings (2 – 3 paragraphs)
