UCI How Ethnic Factors Play a Role in Academic Performance Question

In 3-4 pages, explain the significance of race/ethnicity in producing differential academic
achievement in schools in the United States, based on findings from course readings. In your
answer, you might consider the racialized contexts of schools and how this affects students’
access to educational opportunities, academically rigorous learning environments, and caring and
supportive peers and adults. Or you might address how some students must navigate and
negotiate their racial/ethnic identities while strategizing for academic success in response to
racialized school contexts.
Please see the syllabus regarding the correct formatting of your paper and the rubric posted in
iLearn that will be used to grade your paper. The expectation is that your paper will begin with a
thesis statement that clearly articulates the argument of your paper, and that you will cite
findings from course readings as evidence to support, illustrate, and explain the claims in your
argument.
Your paper must draw on required readings assigned for weeks 5–7. You do not have to use all
the readings assigned for weeks 5-7, but we would expect high quality work to cite evidence
from at least 3-4 required readings assigned for these weeks.
