UCF Fraternity Sorority Health Risks Discussion

You have to write a short discussion about Fraternity/ Sorority Member. describing different health hazards. For example, if my community is “construction worker” (not one of your options), I might comment that some health hazards include falling objects on a construction site, head trauma if workers don’t wear hard hats appropriately, potential falls either from scaffolding or into trenches, etc.

Also, please reply to the three discussions and I give you examples of the comments to know how to write them. Easy assignment

I’ll give you three discussions examples about the topic of Fraternity/ Sorority Member to make you easy to understand what should you write about.

Topic of Fraternity/ Sorority Member, describing different health hazards. So after you read the three discussions you’ll get the idea about the topic so please don’t copy the information from the three discussions examples just get the idea and try to make the best of others examples.

The three discussions examples:

1-For those who choose to go Greek, some specific health hazards may include potential underage drinking and drug use due to peer pressure. Moreover, intoxicated members may choose to drive further increasing the risks for themselves and any other people in the car. A lesser known aspect of going Greek is the step of going through a Process. During this time, many potential new members sacrifice their health by giving up sleep to complete tasks asked of them by the sorority/fraternity.

2-Even though joining Greek life can be a great experience, there are different health hazards that can come with joining. Some health hazards include a deteriorating mental and physical health, being peer pressured into doing dangerous things, hazing, alcohol poisoning, getting into drugs, bad sexual behaviors, etc. A person who is a part of a fraternity or sorority may have a lot of things to keep up with (ex: social life, work, school, family, etc…) which can end up straining their mental health and if they are forgetting to eat and take care of their bodies properly, their physical health is in jeopardy as well. Peer pressure and hazing is sadly a common thing when it comes to Greek life. For an example, this could include being peer pressured into doing drugs or your hazing assignment being to jump of a high cliff into water which could lead to death. Many fraternities and sororities throw parties where alcohol is served and being consumed by students who are underage with no direct supervision, which can lead to going to the hospital because of alcohol poisoning and possibly lead to death if not taken care of properly. Bad sexual behaviors would be having unprotected or unconsensual sex, getting raped, roofied, etc… which can lead to sexually transmitted diseases and/or trauma/bad mental health.

3- Greek life can have many health hazards involved in it one of the major ones is underage drinking/drinking in general. As a member of Greek life, it is very popular to play drinking games and chug drinks as fast as possible at parties and such events. This can lead to something called binge drinking which causes you to consume more drinks which if done often can be bad for your liver. Sometimes it can even lead to a person drinking so much that they get alcohol poisoning and have to go to the hospital or die because of it.

1- It is very unfortunate that all of these things exist in Greek life when many students join with pure intentions and the hope of making friends. How do you think we can help change Greek life for the better and were you ever interested in joining Greek life?

2- The idea of going Greek was definitely something I had considered for a long time before coming to college. However, national Panhellenic council (what most people thing of when they think of Greek life) is not the most culturally inclusive which was a major deterrent for me. To answer your other question, the issue with Greek life is very much the history behind the things that they do. Igniting change would take a mass effort on a local, national, and in some cases, international level. As I mentioned, Process is a significant health hazard for potential new members and each organization’s process is regulated by their national board. As of right now, I am uncertain of what we could do to try to change and intrinsic part of these organizations.

1-I agree that fraternity parties and such are a huge health hazard for everyone involved and especially younger students. Do you think it would be viable to make those parties more exclusive and/or dry? American university culture romanticizes alcohol consumption especially in one’s first year but it only promotes bad behaviors.
