UCF Critical Thinking Case Study

Answer the Critical Thinking and Case Study questions below. Postings must be substantive and resources must be formatted in APA 7th Edition format.

  1. You are an experienced CCRN-certified nurse working in a very small, rural facility with a 6-bed Intensive Care Unit. You report for work one evening to find that the Unit has only one patient and he is expected to expire at any time. He has a DNR order in place and no family. The other nurse scheduled to work this shift with you called out sick only 2 hours ago and management has not replaced her. You have been requested to work the Unit alone. Is this shift assignment safe? What would you do now? What, if anything, would you do in the future?

Case Study: Violence in the Workplace

A very serious incident recently occurred in the hospital in which you work. An RN working triage in the Emergency Room was attacked with a knife and critically wounded by a patient the nurse was attempting to assess. Over the past few years, nurses employed in this Emergency Room have continually expressed concerns about safety and security, with little response from the hospital’s Administration. Now, the Hospital Administrator is listening, and has agreed to commit resources to form a task force whose charge will be to develop a plan to enhance safety and security throughout the hospital. You have been asked to serve on this task force to represent your nursing unit.

  1. If you had been a nurse in the Emergency Room and could go back 12 months before this alarming incident occurred, what steps might you have taken to strongly advocate for a safer and more secure environment for the nurses and other staff members?
