UCD American History Incidents in The Life of A Slave Girl Essay

I’m studying for my History class and don’t understand how to answer this. Can you help me study?

  1. How does Jacobs describe family life for enslaved people? What were challenges for couples, parents, and/or children?
  2. How does Jacobs relate the unique pressures that enslaved girls and women faced based on their race and their gender? What distinguished their experiences from the white women she encountered?
  3. How does Jacobs describe the effects of the “demon Slavery” on whites in the South and in the North? How does Jacobs descriptions of slavery’s influence show how this was a national issue?

please use examples from the book Harriet Ann Jacobs, Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl: Written by Herself, ed. Nell Irvin Painter, 2000.
