Using our paragraph template *I will include this in the files below*, give an overview of the rhetorical approach of a short secondary article or essay from a magazine–just about any “opinion piece” or “editorial” will be fine.
A few more stipulations: * Do not use the Axthelm essay that I use for the model essay. As well, do not use any of the course-assigned articles. * Print or on-line sources are fine. *
The article or essay should be related to SPORTS. To be clear, your focus should be on what you discern as the author’s rhetorical approach, not the mere subject matter (“plot summary”).
For the paragraph’s first sentence, orient your reader with an overall assertion (for example, “In his essay about basketball, ‘Hoops for Everyone,’ Bill Jones attempts to demystify the sport”).
For your two pieces of evidence, use one quotation and one 18 paraphrasing (or other form of non-quotation). Both pieces of evidence should be incorporated and documented.
