TUAB Medical Technology and The Structure of Healthcare Discussion

I’m working on a health & medical question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.

Week 7 Information Management Seminar

Mesko, B., Drobni, Z., Bényei, É., Gergely, B., & Gy?rffy, Z. (2017, September). Digital health is a cultural transformation of traditional healthcare. mHealth. doi: 10.21037/mhealth.2017.08.07

The purpose of this article is to discuss the gap between medical technology and the structure of healthcare (point 1). Healthcare’s highly regulated environment, paternalistic culture, and the reluctance of clinicians to adapt are listed as barriers to fully integrating technology in care delivery (point 2). The technical applications of digital health (point 3) are discussed along with the cultural implications which shift the focus to greater patient involvement as partners in designing care and decision-making (point 4). Finally, the authors advocate for new approaches to teach clinicians how to use the internet, social media, and digital technology in designing more effective treatment plans for their patients (point 5).
