I’m working on a esl discussion question and need a sample draft to help me study.

Begin by completing the 2 items below:

1) Review & Read

  • Review pages 270-281. These are all good strategies, but for this discussion, those are off limits. They are varied, and some give you some ideas for explicit vocabulary instruction (not all are explict, focus on the ones that are).
  • Then also take a look at figure 7.4 on p. 261, focusing on the right half, “explicit instruction.”
  • And lastly, read back over the bits about explicit instruction on p. 262.

2) Find an explicit vocabulary strategy online. For this one, I want you to go find one instead of writing one or using something you already have. You can find a video, a lesson plan, an article, a presentation, etc. This can be for teachers, or something you would use directly with students.

Then for your POST:

  • Give the title of the activity and the link. Be sure that any link points to a specific activity. If there is more than one on the page where the link takes you, please be specific about which activity you are sharing. If giving an activity from a print journal or book, provide a complete citation. (2 pts.)
  • Give a suggested grade level (and discipline if applicable). (.5pts.)
  • Tell why you chose or created this particular activity or lesson plan, and how it might be especially helpful with ESL students (although you may do it with all students in your class). (min. 3 sentences) (3 pts.)
