Written Assignment:

Handbook Prosecuting the Patent

The final significant content segment of the patent handbook is the section on prosecuting the patent. As a patent engineer manager, this is the section of the handbook where you provide instruction to the patent engineers you supervise regarding what to do after the patent is filed. Any number of issues can arise during the patent approval process such as a request for clarification of the application terms or rejection and need to appeal a decision made by the reviewing patent agent. Even after the patent is granted there may be challenges to the patent brought forth by third parties or other business competitors. Additionally, how to use a newly granted patent is important as well. It can open up new opportunities for collaboration and partnerships with others or provide an opportunity to bring new products to the marketplace or put out improved versions of existing items.

Your job in this assignment is to play the role of a patent engineer manager and provide guidance to the other patent engineers you supervise about how to navigate the patent prosecution process.
