Cite 4 out of the 5 readings that I added below. am asking you to think of (at least) ten people in your life who you regularly interact with. I want you to write about how you know them and what you know about them. For instance, maybe I have a friend I met in graduate school. He’s white, queer, upper-middle class, lives in NYC, and has a learning disability. I might also note that I don’t know his religious affiliation, if has a relationship to the prison industrial complex, or where he is from originally. I would write a journal entry about these social locations, for example, and trying to identify how I know what I know about this particular person.

Take a survey of the people who you have written about and look for patterns; what is common among the people in your life? What is missing? Reflect on why that might be the case. How have your experiences within different cultural spheres filled your life with the people around you? Is it intersectional? This is not an exercise in determining whether or not your life is doing “good” or “bad” at diversity, but rather a reflection on how power, culture, and intersectionality play out in your own life.

After discussing these larger ideas, you should then provide a plan on how to make your life more intersectional.

Your final paper should be 4-6 pages and utilize the theories and research we have gone over in class. You must cite at least four readings from the course. You do not need to find additional sources but are welcome to do so. This is “me-search,” you are not only welcomed but encouraged to use “I” statements.
