What is ATD? It was called the American Society for Training and Development/now called ATD and is still the world’s largest association dedicated to workplace learning and development professionals.

“The Association for Talent Development (ATD), formerly ASTD, is the world’s largest association dedicated to those who develop talent in organizations. These professionals help others achieve their full potential by improving their knowledge, skills, and abilities.

ATD’s members come from more than 120 countries and work in public and private organizations in every industry sector. ATD supports the work of professionals locally in more than 125 chapters, international strategic partners, and global member networks.

Started in 1943 as the American Society of Training Directors, this organization evolved to become the American Society for Training & Development. As the scope and the impact of the training and development field has grown, the profession’s focus has broadened to link the development of people, learning, and performance to individual and organizational results.”

Threaded Discussion Assignment:

Hello Class…This week we are focusing on the consulting and assessment practice of Individual AND Team Skills. In order to find out “real world” information about this aspect of consulting, please go to the website

There you will find an organization for people who are consultants (both internal and external), trainers, and other workplace leadership professionals. This website is the national ATD, located in Virginia, close to Washington, D.C. The ATD organization also serves as a lobby function to represent all of the issues of importance to professionals in this field. For example, when Washington wanted to cut tuition reimbursement for education, ATD was there lobbying. There are also local chapters of ASTD/ATD, and there might be one in your city!

When you go to the website, look around and find something of interest to you professionally. Please post your two paragraphs by Thursday midnight. Cite every post! Have fun!
