Each student should contribute at least two sites that have at least one advertisement from the era of forced labor in America.

Step 2:

Students will gather the following information from five (5) ads about runaway indentures servants and five (5) ads about runaway enslaved peoples: (1) similarities and differences in the lives of enslaved peoples and indentured servants, (2) similarities and differences in the skills/jobs of enslaved peoples and indentured servants, (3) similarities and/or differences in the way the authors of these ads perceived enslaved peoples and indentured servants.

Step 3:

Students will use evidence from primary sources (newspaper advertisements) and from secondary sources (Murolo and Dunn) to write a 2-page documented essay in response to the following questions: How did owners perceive enslaved peoples compared with how they perceived indentured servants? Why were the attitudes towards enslaves peoples and indentured servants similar/different?
