Goal: To apply the knowledge of econometrics (using mainly cross-sectional data or pooled twoyear cross sectional or two-year panel data) and the training in R that you acquired in this course
to empirically explore an economic (or related) issue.
My expectation: A 8-10 (double spaced) page (excluding data descriptions, and R codes) paper
explaining your research question (why it is interesting to you) along with a brief literature
survey, the econometric method used, the results of your analysis, and further research potentials
– if any. Include the references. Add appendices for data descriptions and the R codes that you
have used.
Step 1: Read Chapter 19 of the text book.
Step 2: Topic:
• something that you have come across in another econ course that you want to check out
empirically, or
• a research paper that you want to replicate and extend/tweak (must include the work in
your reference list.), or
• a question you want to explore using publicly available data online, for example:
https://vincentarelbundock.github.io/Rdatasets/dat…
https://cran.r-project.org/web/packages/Ecdat/Ecda…
Other data sources are also listed in Chapter 19 of the text book.
