-You need to fit a copper collar tightly around a steel shaft that has a diameter of 6 cm at 20°C. The inside diameter of the collar at that temperature is 5.98 cm.
1) What temperature must the copper collar have so that it will just slip on the shaft, assuming the shaft itself remains at 20°C?
-A 4.9-kg block of ice originally at 263 K is placed in thermal contact with a 17.7-kg block of silver (cAg = 233 J/kg-K) which is initially at 1017 K. The H2O – silver system is insulated so no heat flows into or out of it. (Note: cice = 2050 J/kg-K)
1) At what temperature will the system achieve equilibrium?
An aluminum washer has an outer radius r= 2.9 cm and an inner radius of r = 0.59 cm. The temperature of the washer is raised from 346 K to 790 K.
