After reading the articles, you realize that leadership is not confined to a principal’s or a superintendent’s office – it is a practice that a good school should endow every teacher with because teachers come to teaching with skills and knowledge useful to education. A principal who cultivates teacher leadership empowers teachers to share their skills and knowledge with the entire school.
If teachers are leaders, they should also be involved in policy formation – especially policies that guide the teaching and learning process to ensure that every student achieves his or her potential. The final project of this course is an examination of policies in your place of work. You should be in a position to discover holes or gaps that need policy change in order to ensure the effective teaching and learning for a diverse group of your choice. We shall read and review articles that outline the meaning and purpose of policy in education/schooling.
For international students, this will be an opportunity for you to examine policies in your home country that impact learning and teaching. Should anyone be outside the field of education – you can look at any policies in any organization/institution that impact “diverse” groups of people.

Critically engage the idea of teacher leadership. Assuming every teacher has an opportunity to be a teacher leader according to the definition provided in the articles.
What would you be a leader of?
What skill comes easily to you – is it talking and calming really upset students? Is it classroom management? Is it differentiating instruction? Is it organization skills?
I hope you get the idea – you can lead in many contexts and in many areas.
After identifying your skills and/or knowledge:
Explain how it could benefit your institution. How would establish yourself as a teacher leader following the suggestions from the articles.
