Objective: The objective of the Policy debate is to argue the merit of a particular policy solution to a societal problem. You will continue to gain speaking experience on a topic of your choice, and you will either AFFIRM or NEGATE the resolution that you and your partner mutually decide.

– I am on the ((Negative side)) so against the resolution below

The resolution: “All people should be vegetarian”

Directions: You will be assigned a debate partner & brainstorm possible resolutions for your Policy debate. Herrick Appendix A will be your guide for this debate. You will need to build a case in three parts: significance, inherency, and solvency. Importantly, the affirmative bears the burden of proof that a policy will solve the problem. The negative does not have to provide an alternative policy; he/she/they just have to demonstrate that the proposed policy will not work, or will not solve the problem.

Negative Introduction (1:00-1:30)

Negative Body (3:00-4:00)

Negative Rebuttal (0:45-1:30)

Negative Conclusion (0:30-1:00)

Be sure to time each section of your policy debate at home. It is important to learn to speak according to time limits. You earn points based on how well you adhere to time guidelines.
