The renaming of monuments/buildings/places on UNC’s Campus

Final Project (30%): On June 17, UNC’s Board of Trustees voted to remove its ban on renaming campus buildings; that ban said that no buildings or monuments could be moved or renamed until 2031. More recently, a campus commission recommended renaming four buildings (Aycock, Carr, Daniels, Ruffin). Now, we can consider renaming. For your final project, identify five buildings, places, or monuments on UNC’s campus, explain and describe the history of their present name, and propose, backed up by research, a new name. Include a broad statement of principles as to what should guide the naming of campus sites. 5-7 pages. You can make an appointment to talk with librarian Sarah Morris here.

Style: Papers should be footnoted. Footnotes should follow the Chicago Manual of Style. Use 12-point Times New Roman font with standard margins. Number your pages and double space. One space after periods. Oxford commas. Proofread your papers. Take a look at a grammar PowerPoint here.
