TOP TEN GRAMMAR AND FORMAT GOOFS MOST STUDENTS MAKE ON THEIR MIDTERM ESSAYSDON’T LET THAT BE YOU:-Don’t use “I” or “we” or “you” (NO PERSONAL PRONOUNS) -Use signal phrases to introduce your quotes. Don’t just stick them in. See Works Cited Guide for how. -If you don’t use signal phrases, then be sure to use a colon right before a quote, not a comma. -Put commas and periods INSIDE quote marks.
