Hi there,
I need help with this assignment, and my group is A.
Here is the question:
For this week, you are to integrate the reading lessons into the creation of an Incident Action Plan (IAP) and document that on ICS 201. Remember to utilize the “Incident Priorities” established in your prior reading assignments, for example, protection of life, incident “stabilization” (prevent it from getting bigger), protection of property, protection of environment, restoration of community.
Don’t overthink this. Use the fillable form 201 to document your IAP after you have considered what incident priorities you need to include. Look at the examplar I posted as a model for you.
Group A – Winter Storm Jonas resulted in a roof collapse of a Senior supervised living facility housing 8 residents, 3 with ‘special care needs’ requiring continuous electrical power. Two staff and 2 residents are unaccounted for in this brick and wood frame 2 floor plus basement structure. Think in terms of the first operational period of 8 hours.
Group B – An electrical failure has placed Anywhere General Hospital (AGH) on generator power. Anywhere Power Company estimates that the outage will last 3-4 days. AGH is a 129 bed community hospital with a five bed ICU that is full. It has a 3 day supply of fuel for the generator, but not enough for full, standard daily operations. The hospital’s EOP call for asking help from its affiliate facility, University City Hospital (UCH). UCH has power. It is a 700 bed tertiary hospital located 19 miles from AGH.
FEMA Form 201 is attached: 610-form 201-fillable.docx
NOTE – You do not need to write a part 2 DB assignment this week.
I suggest you quickly review the Wayne University document below. It is very brief and will help you make your IAP objectives SMART.

Here is the reading assignment for this week:
Ciottone chapter 32, pages 207-209. For those of you using the online version, these pages begin with the title “Emergency Operation Plan” below Box 32.4. The discussion ends at “Gap Analysis.”
Perry & Lindell chapter 7
FEMA Planning and Template Guide – Go to this link for a quick reference to the many types of planning templates available through FEMA:
The Joint Commission Preparedness Guide – See attached.
See attached FEMA IAP Planning Guide. It’s a big document, but worth adding to your personal library.
See the ICS 201 Exemplars I posted to guide you in the creation of your own. They aren’t perfect (We can discuss how to improve them), but will give valuable guidance. The FEMA IAP Action Guide also has examples to review.
- Objectives -I think everyone would benefit from this very brief work out of Wayne State University. Please take a look and use the guidance as you write your objectives this week. Wayne State SMART Objectives Guidelines.pdf
FOCUS POINTS
No, the Ciottone ref isn’t an error. You only need that one page from that text. The Perry text is an outstanding resource for plan development, so read that one carefully. While the FEMA IAP Planning Guide is big, it is mostly useful as a reference. Don’t try to read the whole thing yet. Take a good look, though, at the templates. These aids prove invaluable in EM, not just for planning, but for exercise development, critique etc. We will use these over and over during the masters.
I have attached the documents pleas find them and let me know f you have any questions please.
Thank you.
