The Effects of The Freedman’s Bureau on The Education of
Formerly Enslaved Blacks

Introduction

James
D. Anderson’s marvellous piece of historic work is about access to education
for blacks, especially children, in the southern region of the country. The
topic for this discussion is the development of an education system exclusively
developed by blacks in the South that was supported and promoted solely by
themselves. In the aftermath of the Civil War, black ex-slaves paid attention
to their education and formed the Freedman’s Bureau which was responsible for
the betterment of their lives. Education was given a high priority by the
Freedman’s Bureau. THESIS STATEMENT: The
focus of the Freedman’s Bureau on the education of formerly enslaved blacks is
significant because schools and universities that still exist were created, (find
reason 2), and education changed black’s lives.

The existence of today’s
historically black colleges and universities is the result of the work of the
Freedman’s Bureau and the newly-freed blacks that formed it. EXPAND ON THIS
INFORMATION.

Overall, the impact of the
Freedman’s Bureau’s focus on education was that it changed the circumstances of
black people’s lives. EXPAND THIS THOUGHT.

Current Status of the Black
Education

Even
today, America is still a society which mostly sees the black people as the
non-freedmen of the slavery era and their rights cannot be equal to those of
the white people. This mind-set has been the transitioned down right from the
start of the white supremacy who did not allow the black schools to flourish
with the threat in their under conscience that these black people would take
over the community and their white supremacy might come to an end.

There
were the proponents of black education from the white people and this proportion
is still the same even today but the way the white people have been promoted
and encouraged to excel in their education, cannot be seen in the black
communities and also the black children and adults do not receive the
reasonable ovation for their outstanding performances in the education. There
are some of the schools which indicate that concrete steps were taken to
develop an education system that would be highly beneficial for the black
children of the South but due to insufficient public policies, national level
interest and lack of balance in the black and white education priorities have
stopped the increase in number of these schools.
