The concepts or theories of difference in general (in other words, what does the literature tell us about difference as a concept, construct or theory);

1. When did you first notice you were different in any way (or have you never felt different); —-As I got older with my mom being an active military member and living in predominantly white communities.
2. What did the difference feel like; —Because of culture differences I felt left when my mom was more strict or not feeling beautiful compared to my Caucasian friends who had long straight hair.
3. Give one or two examples of incidents in which you believed you were treated unfairly because of some characteristic about you; One example would be my peers in college making comments “oh you wish you were white” or “Your so pretty a for black girl.”
4. Give one or two examples of incidents in which you treated someone else unfairly because of a characteristic about that person. ill admit when I had to pick up a “offer up” order from a black couple in a predominantly black community, I was nervous compared to picking up a “offer up” order in a white community.
5. Discuss how you feel about yourself as a person today, historically and with respect to others. Enumerate the ways in which you consider yourself or are perceived as oppressed (or privileged). I feel as my self today that I have to try harder than the privileged community when it comes to applying to jobs and being considered. Ive experience so many let downs from interviews where I made it to the top two and the director picks another candidate I think because they were white or older, even tho I have a higher education and meet their credentials.
6. Describe how you believe your characteristics will impact your work as a social worker. My characteristics will allow me to show people that there are hard working African American women in this world making a difference.
