The Benefits of Playing Football Among Children Argumentative Essay

For this essay, we want to do a little research. So, first pick a topic that you are interested in. Then, find a source in our databases that will help you set up your argument. You want to include two quotations from two articles in your essay (in two of your body paragraphs).

To find a source:

  1. Go to the A&M website
  2. Click on “Library” in the upper right hand corner
  3. On the left, click on “Online Databases”
  4. Click on Academic Search Premier
  5. Type your topic in the search bar (you might have to narrow it down)
  6. Pick an article
  7. Read the article

From our website:

If you cannot login to the LRC’s online databases, please email veronica.henderson@aamu.edu for assistance. We will be pleased to complete the process for you.

If this does not process in time, you can also use Google Scholar

Then, you can start planning your essay. Which side of the argument do you want to argue? What will be your arguments? Which aspect of the opposition’s view will you bring up? How will you refute it? What examples will you give?

In two of your body paragraphs you will need to use a quotation. Quotations are used to support what you are saying and to show that you are aware of other people’s arguments. Look for a sentence in your source that impresses you. See how you can combine the sentence or part of the sentence with your own words.

For examples you can look at the essay under “Sample Argument Essay” under “Week 13.”

Thomas Tutko, a psychology professor at San Jose State University and coauthor of the book Winning is Everything and Other American Myths, writes, “I am strongly opposed to young kids playing tackle football” (13).
