As you
read this short newspaper article, I want you to look at statistical evidence
presented in this argument and answer the questions below.  You may copy
and paste the questions in a word document and answer from there.

1.
Characteristic of Interest (Question to answer):What was the question the
professor was asking in this study?

2.
Target Population:Take
a look at the title of the article.  According to the title, what would be
the logical target population you would look for to answer this question if you
were the professor?

3.
Sample Population: Who
exactly was used in the study?  How many? (Be as specific as possible.)
4. Representative: Howrepresentativeof the target population was his
sample?  Was the sample size adequate?  Why or why not?

5.
Methods:Which
methods did he use to gather his data?  Are these methods reliable?
Why or why not?

6.
Conclusion: What
is the conclusion of the researcher?

7.
 Headline: To
what extent is the headline given to this article a responsible one?  In other
words, is the title of the article representative of sound research?  Be
specific with your reasons.  Cite at least one example from the research.
8.  Analysis: If you were to read this article in your
newspaper, how much credibility would you give it?  Why or why not?
If you were researching the topic of students listening habits, would you
use this research?  Why or why not?    ****This is important.
Think about why or why not this is a good study and explain.  Use at least
two examples from the article to prove your point.HINT: The study wouldn’t be in the
book if it was good – so please don’t tell me this is a great study, regardless
of your experience.  You have to judge the conclusion based on the
research (reason) given in the article.
