I would like the job to be some type of management position in Minnesota somewhere near the cities.
Part 1
Templates
As mentioned in this week’s lecture, Microsoft Office software has a variety of templates for common tasks that individuals use on a daily basis. Discuss two templates that would aid in completing tasks in your ideal job (refer to the job opening posting that you found for this week’s written assignment and be sure to include the job title and where you found the posting).
Explain why the two templates would be useful in this position. You may use templates from the File > New screen or search online if you are looking for something specific. Feel free to do research on templates from Microsoft Excel or PowerPoint as well Microsoft Word.
Part 2
Building a Cover Letter
Cover Letter
Using your favorite search engine locate a job opening posting that draws your interest. (Feel free to use the same position that you identified in this module’s discussion.) Once you have found the posting, read more about the position and create a cover letter using one of the templates in Microsoft Word. Be sure to use keywords, as discussed in the lesson. Make sure you modify the template data with your information, personalizing it to highlight your education, skills, and/or talents (not personal traits). The template serves only as a guide to show you how to format your information. Your completed cover letter should have little, if any, of the original template text.
Part 3
Using Databases
Recall that databases are a quick and easy way to retrieve small pieces of information, contained within a large mass of records or data. While you may not realize it, you probably use a database on a daily basis, and databases have grown to be a very important part of our everyday lives.
For example, when you rent a movie from the local video store, they most likely use a database to retrieve your information. When you hand them your card to check out a movie, the database pulls up your information, and assigns the movie to your name in the database. The database makes this process simple, quick, and accurate.
In a 1-page paper, explain one way that you use a database; this can be something as simple as renting a video like the example above. Describe how you use the database, and how you think the database makes that process easier. In addition, if you could redesign the database you described, how would you do it and what changes would you make?
Use the following formatting techniques to complete the assignment:
- Document is double-spaced
- Spacing before and after the paragraphs is zero
- One inch margins at top, bottom, left, and right
- Student’s name in header
- File name (FileName code in footer)
