Task 1) Essay Formulation
Your task for this exercise is to compose two separate essays, each with its own unique argument. Each essay will link one term or concept from each column. You are not allowed to reuse terms (6 terms in total must be used for this assignment). Each argument should be elaborated as a 500-650 word essay that clearly defines each concept or term, identifies how the three terms relate with a clearly stated argument, and supports claims with empirical evidence from readings, lectures, personal experience, and/or external examples. You do not need to cite all sources, but terms, theorists, books, and essays should be correctly identified and contextualised. (If you choose to include direct quotations, however, those must be correctly cited – this is not advisable with the limited word count).
The point of this assignment is to evaluate your ability to make links between the different readings and topics of this unit. This will be accomplished through the writing of clearly stated and supported arguments that draw on different materials in creative or surprising ways. An excellent response for this assignment will demonstrate not only a solid grasp on required readings and lectures, but also an ability to synthesise different claims from our class, using material from readings and lectures in the shaping of your own, creative arguments.
Each essay should be NO MORE than 650 words and will be worth 25% of the total mark for this assignment. In presenting this assignment, each essay should be given a title that lists the three terms it discusses AND be labelled 1A) and 1B) The entire exam should be submitted as one word document. (again the essays from task 1 should have titles you give them – and then every essay should be labelled concurrently as 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B

2B) Choose your least favorite work that we have looked at thus far in class (as long as it has been discussed in class – i.e. is in the class slides). Analyze this work, its significance, and why you consider it “unsuccessful.” (Please include at least one reference with formal citations from a class reading).
