Briefly summarize the article by describing the main point(s) of the news article, whether the article covered the aspects of the health issue that concerned or interested you most, whether the article specifically covered any psychological factors related to the health issue, what research was reported in the news article to support the points made by the article, how you would evaluate the article’s level of coverage of the health issue, and why the topic is of interest to you. Provide a link to the news article.
COMMUNITY HEALTH PROGRAMS (1 credit)
Identify one community-based program (off-campus) that focuses on addressing health issues, such as health-behavior change or health policies. The program can be through a local health department or a non-profit organization. Describe the purpose of the program, its target population, and the major activities or components of the program. Evaluate different aspects of the program (e.g., whether some aspects might be more/less effective than others and why). If there are changes you would recommend that would improve the program (e.g., based on things you learned from our course), state those recommended changes. Provide a link to the community health program.
HEALTH PSYCHOLOGY GRADUATE TRAINING (1 credit)
Identify a Health Psychology graduate program (PhD or master’s programs are fine) that is not at Stony Brook University and review the program’s website. Review the faculty pages of the professors in the program or department and briefly describe the research area of 1-2 faculty members whose work you find most interesting. Provide a link to the graduate program.
