I’m working on a psychology discussion question and need guidance to help me learn.

Here is a list of online suicide prevention resources: Suicide Prevention Resources.pdf

Step 1:
Select one of the websites on the list and write 6+ sentences on a specific method, resource, or information that they suggest for helping to prevent suicide and self-injury. Let us know why you think it is helpful and how it fits with what is in the reading from our textbook.

Step 2:
Select a second website and do the same as in Step 1. If you want to go above-and-beyond, choose a website that is not on the handout I provided above.

Step 3:
Respond to one of your peers. Select one of the points that they made and let them know why you think it is a valuable point. As usual, please avoid responding to a peer who already has multiple responses.

This is written by my classmate

Step 1: The website I chose was https://suicidepreventionlifeline.org ,the Lifeline website offered a variety of things on the prevention or decrease in suicides and suicide attempts but what stuck out most to me however was the stories of hope section, it may seem small to others but this seemed significant to me. Why because me and others are tired of just hearing okay, be happy, write down grateful things you are thankful for, yes these are great things, but we need more as a community I feel like. Such as someone who’s dealt with depression even thought about suicide at my darkest days in my younger years when life brought me to knees, I cherish those dark sad stories of someone going through something and coming out bruised up and but better and not in that dark place at all still. Because I see myself and I can sympathize, it’s like i’m able to see others are going through this too and I’m not the only one struggling, it takes some weight off my and others shoulders as well I think. I truly forget how this fits in the book at the moment, but it fits the theme of helping others with mental health issues and these stories do just that, help those in need with a light of hope, and it made my day just reading a few of these things.

step 2: The next website I chose that was actually off the list was https://suicideprevention.nv.gov/Adult/WhatYouCanDo/, (Links to an external site.) this website talked moreso about adult suicide: the rates, prevention, and the biggest thing how to prevent it such as what we can do as people to everyone in everyday life. I think thats the kicker many of us forget or think a little about, yes the major thing is people go through stuff that can be from family, martial , and personal issues but the very things that may be sending people over the ledge and I’ve experienced from first hand experience was the way and how people talked to me in those moments where I needed to hear hope or just everything go workout in the end. I constantly hear from others and from my own experience, was that your blowing things out of proportion, man up, your soft and as male hearing this it was very hard and heart wrenching hearing this, because it was saying my experience was insignificant and pushing aside the feelings I was feeling. It’s like this for many others the stats and I hear from loved ones, they say they don’t feel heard or they get advice that makes things even worse. The website really just list common sense things people should be aware of because these little things are what push people over the edge or are the last straw that broke the camels back when it comes to people thinking about suicide or are just very depressed or mentally ill.
