Assume there is a gubernatorial election in the state of California as soon as covid crisis is over. As you very well know people are unsatisfied with the current state of housing in the state, and are open to new ideas to solve it. After taking this urban economics class, you felt confident on your ability to fix the issue so you ran the election to be the governor of California. Voters noticed that you actually did study urban economics at LMU (with Swarup, ahem!) and they elected you as the first undergraduate student governor of California. Congratulations! Use your understanding of urban economics, and formulate a set of policy proposals on how you would fix the housing crisis in the state of California. Assume that you have good relationship with the state legislature to pass laws and the federal government is also willing to help you out. In your essay, please make sure to address the following non-exhaustive list of issues: – Housing prices – Housing shortage – Homelessness – Environmental preservation – Income and Racial Segregation For maximum credit: Please provide evidence of effectiveness (including statistics) of your policies. Please also address the intended and unintended consequences of your policies, where possible. Please feel free to use innovative solutions to the issues outlined above. [Hint: You could study policies being used in other countries like Singapore, Vienna, etc.] Submit your report as a word or pdf document titled LastnameFirstName_MidtermIIReport.
