Hi Professor and classmates,
I chose Intrapreneur as my option to launch a new service idea for my company.
My name is Rick Henson and I currently reside in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Originally from Indiana, my family relocated to Fort Worth, TX from 2006 to 2017 for my job. In 2016, Verizon sold off Texas and I had to go work for the new communications company. That lasted about two years as I truly missed Verizon’s culture, leadership, and opportunities. I am thankful and blessed to have been rehired back with Verizon, working with my previous team. I am currently networking internally for a position I have wanted for a few years. This position is was the key driver for me to enroll in the JWMI MBA program for growth and development. Earlier this year I was nominated for an internal 16-week leadership program that begins this month and runs through EOY. I look forward to completing both programs this year and the opportunities that lie ahead.
I’ve been married for 27 years, my wife and I have three beautiful children; Emily, a recent graduate of Ole Miss, Molly is a pre-med senior at Indiana University, and our youngest will be a senior in high school. When I’m not working, I enjoy traveling with my son’s travel lacrosse team and hunting with my bird dogs. My wife and I are both foodies and enjoy traveling and trying new restaurants. Once our son graduates, we are planning to relocate to South Carolina.
Austin Allan’s comment of thinking long-term resonated most with me. I suspect most entrepreneurs typically are focused on the short-term to get their business up and running, and profitable. Mr. Allan helped me understand the importance of looking ahead to determine if my business today can carry over into the next phases of my plan, and stay true to my vision. Lastly, I appreciated his shared comments of personal struggles with receiving negative comments of his product and vision of a new way to create and consume soup.
