What changes to team structures and key roles will you need make to execute your strategic initiative? Explain.

As CEO, I must focus on increasing Checkers’ sales and trailblazing the ways my business finds and retains customers.  The marketing team is the key role that will assist in executing Checkers’ strategic initiative.  The marketing team will have regular monthly meetings.  In these meetings they will discuss ways to increase sales, such as:  using email, social media, print, radio, and digital marketing to reach customers.  The marketing team will also identify a target audience and tailor a sales strategy to them.  In addition, the marketing team will analyze our competitors and find ways to reach their target audience.      

Will the head count/salary costs be net positive, negative, or neutral? Why?

I believe the head count/salary costs will be negative.  I worked in HR before and found that a business head count/salary costs doesn’t balance the same way money in a financial statement may balance.  I thought that the formula (starting head count/salary costs + hires – terminations = ending head count/salary costs) I had would work and everything would balance out.  However, I didn’t consider that employees hired at the beginning of the month are also included in starting head count/salary costs, resulting in the same employees being double-counted.  Also, employees who leave at the end of the month are also included in ending head count/salary costs and terminations, resulting in the same employees being double-counted.  In addtion, there were employees within the month that were on leave (returning to work or off work), resulting in extra employees for the month that weren’t hired or terminated.  

What training and other resources will you require to support the new plan?

The marketing team must have training in sales, communication, and presentation.  They must train on how to be creative and multi-task.  They must also have strong computer and internet training.  In addtion, they must be self-motivated.  “When you were made a leader you weren’t given a crown, you were given the responsibility to bring out the best in others” (Welch, 1). 

What is the most critical element of your people plan that you will have to get right for your plan to work? Why?

The most critical element of my people plan is for employees to follow Checkers’ mission statement.  “Service with a smile keeping customers happy and hard work and dedication” (Checkers, 2).  Checkers’ mission statement helps motivate and attract talent.  Checkers’ mission statement also helps to define the company culture.  In addition, Checkers’ mission statement instills strategic leadership.
