I’m studying for my Health & Medical class and don’t understand how to answer this. Can you help me study?
After reviewing Harrison Text Chapter One please address the following:
Have any of you been involved in a strategic planning process? Share any experiences you have had with Strategic Planning.
Chapter 1 gives a high level overview of Strategic Planning concepts and the key people involved in the Strategic Planning Process.
Not only for strategic planning purposes, mission and vision are key to any successful organization. Have any of you had experience with forming mission/vision statements, or have you worked in organizations who were either functioning in line with or totally opposite of their mission/vision?
Mission is the WHY the organization exists, vision is the WHAT the organization hopes to be, and the Strategic Plan is HOW the organization plans to achieve that vision. Vision and the Strategic Plan may change over the course of time but the Mission of the organization, WHY it exists, should not change. If it changes it’s really a new organization. For example, if a Catholic Charity’s mission is to “help the poor,” that mission could take many forms, the organization’s vision of how they want to help the poor (ie food, shelter, healthcare) can change. But the reason the organization exists stays the same no matter what form their actions take.
Vision is where the organization wants to go or what the organization wants to be when it “grows up.” Vision is a “hoped-for,” future state of being.
Research the mission statement of an organization you do business with–anything from Target to your favorite shoe or clothing brand, or your computer or car. Does the mission statement fit with what your perception of that company has been? In your answer, list the organization name, its mission, and your reaction to it.
In your own words, explain how and why Strategic Planning and Leadership are interconnected.
