In this lab you will study the features of the planets of the solar system (the video mentions doing the same for a few moons, but this will actually be a separate lab you complete next week), all using the Stellarium software package. You can download the lab write up below (as both a word document and a pdf). The videos above will walk you through the lab. Upon completion of this lab you will be able to:
- Discuss the major surface features of the planets
- Identify whether or not a planet has an atmosphere
- Identify whether or not the axis of rotation of a planet is inclined
- Calculate the diameter of the planets using the small angle formula
- Discuss some of the features of the major moons of the solar system
