In this assignment you’ll choose an invertebrate that you might want for a pet and create a care guide for it like you would find at a pet store. You can definitely have fun with and be creative with this care guide! If you want to have a giant squid or a clam as your pet that’s okay!
This care guide must be on ONE page, but can be done by hand or on a computer. This is NOT an essay! Look at the examples from Petsmart/Petco linked below or my example for inspiration. If you use Microsoft Word you can experiment with different templates.
As always, Mrs. Roberts is looking to give extra credit for assignments that go beyond what is required on the rubric! This will be your last summative grade.
Rubric:
- 10 pts – TWO pictures that you draw and color of your invertebrate pet
- 10 pts – scientific name (be sure to follow the rules of scientific naming!)
- 10 pts – kingdom and phylum of your invertebrate pet
- 10 pts – written description of the pet, not a list (appearance, color, size, lifespan, etc)
- 10 pts – written description of what habitat is needed for the pet, not a list (temperature, location, plants, water, appearance, etc)
- 10 pts – written description of the nutrition/food the invertebrate pet eats, not a list
- 15 pts – suppy list of what to buy your invertebrate pet so it will survive
- 15 pts – “Is this pet right for me?” questionnaire, at least 5 questions to see if someone thinking of adopting this pet will be able to care for it (see examples for help)
- 10 pts – at least TWO sources, sources must be specific and go right to the website it came from, cannot be from Wikipedia, Google, Yahoo
Things that will make you lose points:
- -30 pts – your care guide must be ONE page
- -20 pts – the pictures you draw must be colored
- Be sure your animal is an invertebrate!
